LIVELIHOOD GRANTS FOR VULNERABLE MINORITY FAMILIES IN HARGEISA

USWO ORG – Hargeisa, Somaliland: On 12 September 2013, USWO in collaboration with Save the Children International (SCI) and Child Right Community Committees (CRCCs) launched the second income generation livelihood grant provision to 37 vulnerable families in the IDP camp of Daami A and B. The main objective to support these families is to sustain their household economy and to provide protection concerns to their children against abuse such as child laboring in the streets, child not going to school including ensuring children’s physical fitness on health matters.

In line with the assessment conducted by SCI, USWO and CRCCs on May 2013, families were supported according to their business skill requested. Upon collection of support grant from the Bank, families were instructed to immediately use the money to the intended business already agreed between SCI, USWO and CRCCs to avoid mismanagement. Families will then return the receipt to USWO through CRCCs for proof certifying the appropriate use of the grant. Copy of the receipts will retain in USWO office and originals will be submitted to SCI.

Under the watch guard of USWO and CRCCs, following table is delineating the findings on how families managed the livelihood grant after withdrawal from the Bank:
