IDP MINORITY AND MIGRANT WOMEN'S CURRENT SITUATION IN DAAMI A&B, SHEIKH NOUR AND QOOBKA IDP SETTLEMENTS - SURVEY REPORT 2022

USWO: Migrants gethering in Daami A IDP camp
USWO organization has recently conducted a preliminary survey on marginalized IDP minority and migrant women's current situation in Daami A&B, Sheikh Nour and Qoobka IDP settlements which are widely known to be the most and only residential areas for minority communities and for the low socioeconomic and marginalized groups in Hargeisa, Somaliland. Here we have published the key findings and results of this survey report on the current situation of migrants from Ethiopia; as well as, refugees and other returns from South Central Somalia.

The capital city of Somaliland, Hargeisa, is an expanding urban metropolis. Over the years, it has become host to various population groups that have been displaced as a result of conflict, insecurity or drought, and those who are migrants to the city for various purposes. The last decades have seen internally displaced people (IDPs), refugee returnees from Ethiopia and elsewhere, refugees and crossing, or economic migrants arrive in the city; the majority join communities residing in government-recognized settlements, while others mingle with the host populations across the city.

Saredo Mawlid Abdullah's Story

“Saredo is a marginalized IDP minority mother living with her five children in the Daami IDP minority camp. Her case is domestic violence: on 8th February 2022, her husband brutally beat her and she feels inner pain vomiting blood. USWO has interviewed her and therefore, referred her to medication. The full story is also available in our survey report.”

Sacda Dahir Osman’s Story
“Sacda is a female migrant from Ethiopia living with her one orphaned child in the Daami IDP minority camp. She is a survivor of VAWG and was raped and sexually abused by five men at 5:00 am on 5th November 2021 on her way home in Daami IDPs settlement, Ga’an-Libah District of M/Jeeh region in Somaliland. USWO organization has interviewed Sacda and referred her to the Migrants’ Referral Center in Hargeisa, Somaliland. Her case is still under process for further investigation.”
