USWO PROJECT: SUPPORT TO THE PROMOTION OF GENDER EQUALITY AND WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT IN SOMALILAND FUNDED EUROPEAN UNION (EU)

On 1st October 2014, USWO signed a new project on "Support to the promotion of gender equality and women's empowerment in Somalia/land funded by the European Union (EU) to Minority Rights Group International (MRG) and managed by and in partnership with IIDA Women's Development Organization (IIDA).

The project has several complementary dimensions which are designed:

a) To provide rights and skills training and support for Somaliland minority women to organize at a local level; and 

b) To increase the effectiveness of advocacy activities at a local and national level, to bolster the future representation of Somaliland minority women’s needs and voice in the political process. 

The objective of this project is to increase the skills of Somaliland minority women to participate in the socio-economic and political processes in Somaliland. It will also improve the environment in which Somaliland minority women can exercise their rights by increasing public awareness and knowledge of Somaliland minorities' needs and demands, and improve policies and practices from public officials and service providers.



USWO will work to contribute to the creation of equitable and inclusive society through the elimination of caste-based discrimination and untouchability through providing the disadvantaged and marginalized minority people with the tools needed to deal with their social, educational, environmental, health, economic and cultural issues and concerns.
